Beating Fast Followers at Their Own Game
Dave Dreifus, Director, Research and Development, Brady Corp
Dan Longhenry, Product Engineer Manager, Brady Corp
Iain Ainsell, Manager, High Volume Product Development, Scientific Generics Ltd.
In the development of market leading products, there is a dilemma of getting to market fast versus achieving perfection to lock out fast followers. One approach to solving this dilemma is to get it mostly right and then be your own fast follower. Even as the first Globalmark was being launched, Brady had embarked upon development of a 'mark II' which would be better and cheaper. In order to achieve this, a radical redesign approach called "Product Challenge" was deployed using a fresh team and a co-development effort with Scientific Generics.
The Brady team will present this holistic approach to challenging every aspect of a product that allowed Brady to both create the early market and to transition to a profitable and secure role in the mainstream volume business.
